Currently, the Oakwood neighborhood in Raleigh is the largest intact nineteenth century neighborhood in the state. Alex and Katherine Slater recently bought an 1878 Italianate home in the neighborhood. Alex, along with two friends invented the Shibumi Shade in 2016, now famous along southern beaches. the following article details the couple's artful home renovation.

Isaach Dial, Navajo, Lumbee and Tuscarora jewelry artist and silversmith, began his career as a young apprentice in Robeson County, North Carolina. His pieces have garnered critical praise and the attention of collectors. Dial is the son of the renowned and now late master jeweler Grant Dial.
