"Revitalized Elizabeth City welcomes visitors with history and charm.' Elizabeth City was founded in 1793. One of it's main attractions is the Museum of the Albemarle. The museum houses a prominent 1904 shad boat, representing the official state historic boat in North Carolina. Elizabeth City also offers access to the Dismal Swamp State Park. The Dismal Swamp is the largest remaining swamp in the eastern United States.
