Tonressee has taken an advancs step in the fight against cigarettes by the passage of a law which is aimed to drive them from the State and prevent their being shipped into it. The law is sweeping and explicit. Li pro- hibits the sale, manufacture or disposal in the State ; it prohibits their importation from other States, and also prohibits the sale of cigarette papers: The efforts in other States to legislate the cigarette out of the State by pre- venting iis sale and stopping the importation of it haye not so far been successful, and it remains to be seen how the manutacturers | will treat the Tennessee law. Tue rights of interstate commerce have thus fer stood between the “cigarette fiends” and the pro- hibitory laws.
