Cate are of a contemplative turn of mind—they mews wost of the pight. After a young woman gets to be 30 she stops calling attention to her birthdays by giving parties. There are some people in Or- ange so lazy that they have to earry a cat under each arm to do their breathing tor them. FRANK WILSON, King Clothier. bout. Look over I al In our news columns sa few days ago the death of Mr. M. ©. S. Cherry, an ex member of the Legislature from Pitt county, was noted. He was known for many miles around for long years as ‘Uncle Mark” by allthe young people. He was an old tashioned who made Lis bread and meat when his neighbors were buying from the West; he kept the. faith of Vemocratic simplicity, believ- ing that those men are best gov— erned who are least governed; he was true to his friends and if he for,ave his enemies he did it after the pattern of Andrew Jack- son; he was honest and just, though he found it hard always to be just to men whose public career was contrary to his idea of right; he had no love for a Re- publican and sincerely believed they were enemies of the country; he was an original man, forceful, energetic and aggressive. He was a kindly man, and this writer enjoyed such evidences of his friendship ag tu cause him to sin- cerely mourn the death of honest Hows and Obeoremr. ° rere 8.
