The editors join me in thanking you for your gift. Come to
think of it, so do the writers, the press men, the papermakers, the

distributors, and (alas) the U.S. government, which gift, if others

act in your spirit, will keep us alive during a very important year.

It may seem to you that I take for granted your generosity. I most

emphatically do not, but I do take for granted your loyalty to your
ideals. In the last analysis, that is our ultimate weapon, isn’t it?
Because without those ideals, the fight isn’t worth it; and there is
a great deal of fighting to do to keep "them" at bay. You and I and
other readers of NR know who THEM is, but there are hordes and hordes
of people who are struggling to make them invisible. Annoying, no?
With you in our corner, we won’t let them get away with it.
