Lickens, President The Historic Halifax Garden Association Membership and support of The Historic Halifax Garden Association for 1980.- 1981 On behalf of the Historic Halifax Garden Association, | invite you and your club members to join the assoication for the year 1980-81 (July 1980 - June 1981). The purpose of the association is to assist (from a local stand- point) the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources in planting and developing period landscaping for all buildings and grounds in the Halifax restored area. Our immediate projects include the planting of the garden in front of the Eagle Tavern, and a garden of wild flowers and shrubs behind the Amphitheater . The Historic Halifax Garden Association was formed as a county wide organization, so the Executive Board is very anxious to have garden and civic clubs, as well as individual members throughout the county to be- come a part of this organization. The historical significance of the restored area, and the events leading to the adoption of the Halifax Resolves should be known through-out the United States. With assistance from residents of Halifax County, a monument to beauty in nature can be created in the restored area adding another dimension of interest to tourists. The first meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, August 14, at 10:30 a .m. in the Visitor Center . Doug Phillips, Halifax County Agricultural Extension Agent, will present a program on Wild Flowers Native to Halifax County. Dues for this organization are as follows: Individual Membership $1 .00 Club (25 members or less) $5 .00 Club (25 members or more) $10 . 00 | urge you and your club member, as well as your community friends to become a part of The Historic Halifax Garden Association at the first meeting so we might have a successful year of working together . I seek your Support in these garden venturesin the Halifax historic district. The historic significance of this area should be known throughout the United States due to the Revolutionary War events that occured here. With your in- terest and assistance, a monument to beauty in another element of interest to visitors to one of North Carolinas' largest restoration projects. The staff at the Visitor Center invite you to use the facility for meetings with tours available daily except Mondays. Contact the historic site (phone 583-7191) for further information.
