Burnham, 40, who was responsible. for the design of the nuclear-powered sub- marines Nautilus, Seawolf, and Skate, died Friday of pneu- monia at a New Haven, Conn., hospital. He had been ill for some time. Mr. Burnham had been de- |Sign manager for the last five | years at the Electric Boat Divi- |sion of General Dynamics Corp. at Groton, where he han- |dled the work on atomic sub- marines. Before joining Electric Boat in 1947 after his release from the Navy he served a year with jthe Navy Supervisor of Ship- building at Groton. He was assigned to the Navy Department’s Bureau of Ships here from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Burnham was a graduate of |the Naval. Academy. His home was in Waterford.
