The still of the Northwoods is caressed by the over- ture as dusk descends on the theatre. ...silence.... then the Viking Scout’s horn shatters the quiet and the legend begins. The cadence of the oars- men is heard and the approaching Vik- ing! ship breaks into view. Oars dip, pull and propel the boat to shore and hearty Norsemen disembark. Swords ring, spear and scramasax clash as the Viking battle cry blends with a crescendo of sound and furious action. Vikings and the Dakotah Indians do battle with a common enemy, the Sahiela, and then combine their efforts to heal the phy- sical wounds of battle and gain a better understand- ing of each other's spiritual values. The story deals with the incursion of the Norseman into the wooded territories of Minnesota. The myth- ical happenings which took place before recorded history tell how the invaders met, conquered and in turn were conquered by early Indians of this region. VIKING! is’a portrait of the animosity that man has had for man throughout history, yet it is also a tender love story which brings lovers together over the clamor of battle and through a trackless wilderness.
