The year is 1700.

France and Spain — two of the world’s greatest
powers — are dueling for control of south-western
America. Even as their hostilities bring them to the
brink of open warfare, the Indians of the Southwest
threaten to rise up and eliminate both invaders. Out of
this great conflict, one man emerges to dominate the
frontier scene.

Soldier, explorer, peacemaker and lover, his daring
and resourcefulness make him a legend.

His name is Louis Juchereau de St. Denis.

dungeons of Mexico City as the saga of St. Denis
unfolds . .. fierce battles with the Apache and Natchez
Indians, his struggles to establish and defend the fort
at Natchitoches, his capture and imprisonment by the
Spanish, and his love of the Spanish maiden,
Emanuela Ramon.

IN AND AROUND NATCHITOCHES

The oldest city in the entire Louisiana Purchase

territory, Natchitoches was founded in 1714 by the
hero of “Louisiana Cavalier,” Louis Juchereau de St.
Denis. With such a long and colorful history, the
Natchitoches area has an abundant list of well

preserved old plantation homes and historical sites,
many of which are open to the public.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Paul Green is the author of
“T ouisiana Cavalier.” Mr. Green is often referred to as
the “father of outdoor historical drama.” Some of his

most notable successes in the outdoor drama field

are: THE LOST COLONY, THE COMMON
GLORY, THE STEPHEN FOSTER STORY, CROSS
AND SWORD, TEXAS, WILDERNESS ROAD, and
TRUMPET IN THE LAND.

A major project in development is the reconstruction
of the first fort in the Louisiana Purchase, Fort St.

Jean Baptiste.
