Thank you for your communication of May 7, 1973
in which you express your support for my bill,
H.J. Res, 382 to repeal the Military Selective
Service Act, now pending before the House
Committee on Armed Services.

The President, as you are no doubt aware, has
proposed an expenditure of $55 million on the

Selective Service System for Fiscal Year 1974
and the goal is to reduce this figure to zero.

I am enclosing for your review a copy of that
portion of the Congressional Record of March 12,
1973 which carries my statement on the subject.
