My dear Captain Dillon.

I don't know whether this form of mail is any quicker than the
ordinary one as yet or not, but I hope the system is working

now because I want to let you know right away how very much

your card and the photograph mean to me. What you said and your
feeling about Nick are great tributes to him, and the picture
satisfies that human-ness in each of us which yearns for
tangibilities to grasp.

After seeing and living through so many horrors of war in Greece,
Libva and even in the last World War, I feel sure that Nick
would be grateful to a kind God who spared him a cruel and
painful death. The thing he would mind, would be not being
there with you all to see this thing through; not being able
to contribute more to that final day of Victory. but I know
that all you who knew him will put in an extra lick for him.
I remember his speaking of you when I was in Washington with
him, and his saying what grand work you were doing. May you
have continued success, in bringing that Day for which Nick
strove closer, if not in 1943 perhaps in 1944.
