B. D. MORTON W. R. RIERSON W. A. GOODSON Cc. T. JOYCE F, P. DAVIS CHM. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CHM. FINANCE COMMITTEE PRESIDENT VICE-PRESIDENT SECRETARY & TREASURER J.T. BOOTH, SALES SUPERVISOR Winston Tobacco Board of Trade, Inc. Winston-Salem, North Carolina March 19, 1943. Mr. A.B.Carrington, Jr., e/o Dibrell Bros., Danville, Va. Dear Berk: I wish to thank you for your letter of March 12th en- closing blank form of petition which is being circulated in your section of the Old Belt, and also copy of newspaper clip- ping with reference to the same petition which evidently comes from South Boston. Of course, we will be only too glad to cooperate along this line here in the Winston-Salem territory but I have just contacted the President of the local Warehousemen's Association and he advises me that this matter was taken up rather in detail at different meetings of the 01d Belt Warehouse Association as well as the general meeting in Raleigh, and that the final opinion of the Warehousemen was that it would be unwise to push any movement of this kind now. One particular reason for this is that they know that they will have active opposition of the Grange and other farmer organizations. They are hopeful that the matter of government grading may to some extent collapse even without their active opposition and if so, feel like they would be in better position thereby. Of course, you realize that farmers' signatures to such a petition would have to be secured in any community through the cooperation of the warehouse people and since they feel as they do about it, I am afraid that there is nothing that we can do just now. Thanking you for bringing this to our attention, and with best Wishes, we are, \ Yours very truly,
