Included are his descriptions of problems between the foreign tobacco companies and Chinese labor; Chinese law, courts, and justice, especially public executions; treatment of the Chinese and Japanese by foreigners; relations among foreign missionaries and businessmen; turmoil within China; and reminiscences of his life in China.
36928 OH0002.0.0 Delta Kappa Gamma Oral History Interview 15-Feb-68 Included is the memorial service (Feb. 15, 1968) for Miss Mary Hemphill Greene, former faculty member at E.C.U. The service was held at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, N.C., with Dr. Hermine Caraway presiding, invocation by Rev. Richard Gammon and tribute by Miss Lois Grigsby. Also of interest is a program (August 1967) presented to the Southeast Regional Conference of Delta Kappa Gamma meeting in Mobile, Ala. The program was prepared by Mrs. Addie Lewis of Florida and Mrs. Antoinette Jenkins of N.C. For related material see Collection #117.

The plantation was started by her great-grandfather David Sills and remained in the Sills family for a hundred years.

Particular note is made of impressions of African life, organization of missionary stations, development of schools, students' prospects for success, leadership positions being undertaken by women, the Congolese Rebellion of 1960-1963 and treatment of missionaries during the outbreak, current control of the mission organization by African people, and medical care in the area.
