In this oral history, Debra Newby talks about her childhood, as well as her experience being one of the students who filed a Title IX grievance against East Carolina University in 1978 and how that impacted the rest of her life. Newby attended East Carolina University from 1975-1979 where she was a member of the women's basketball team and majored in English. Along with four other students, Newby filed a Title IX grievance with the university in 1978 focused on equitability issues in the university's sports programs. Interviewer: Alston Cobourn.
