Description
Galloway and Proctor Family (Pitt County, N.C.) Bibles and Bible Records Collection (#1245.2.a) digitization request for researcher Charlotte Durham's Image Reproductions Order Form dated 9/21/2022. Ms. Durham requests that we digitize 3 hard to read Family Record pages (2 & 4). I request that we digitize all 4 Family Record pages plus the Title Page so that the information may be linked to the Digital Collections webpage and the online finding aid thus making the information more accessible. See also Preservation / Conservation note below.

I met with Joe Barricella and discussed the collection on 9/21/2022 to discuss the project. I sent him the low-level scans of the project that I had already sent to the researcher and he seemed confident that he could provide the researcher with a somewhat improved image. I had not yet noticed the glued / taped pages at that point, but he understands the project aside from that. I can also the Image Reproductions Order Form if necessary.
Offline Note

Pages 1 & 3 of the 4 Family Record pages in this project are attached to the underlying pages with glue and pressure sensitive tape. Please examine the pages to determine if Preservation / Conservation can or should provide any treatment prior to digitization. If possible, I would also like to learn whether the glued-taped pages conceal any genealogical information on the underlying pages. If there is such information beneath the visible pages, it would be helpful researcher if we can reveal and scan those pages as well. It may be that others have examined the pages previously and determined that nothing can or should be done, or that the underlying pages are blank. I consulted Martha Elmore who was familiar with the collection, but she did not recall that any preservation work had been done on it to date. [note from conservation: We removed the clear scotch tape. On examination, the genealogical material is not backed with paper, but has only been re-margined with paper strips along the outermost edges. Transmitted light was used to verify that no text was being obscured. Message sent to curator to let them know. 9/26/2022-lh]
