Particular attention is given to establishing procedures and locations for the effective logistical support for the region.

49643 OH0136.0.0 Kenneth David Shaver Sr. Oral History Interview 11-Sep-92 Kenneth David Shaver, a native of Rowan County, N.C., recounts his experiences during World War II. He describes his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942, and training at various U.S. bases before being assigned to a base in England where he served as flight engineer on a B-17 (the "Pistol Packin Mama"), that made bombing raids over Germany. He details how his plane was shot down over Holland (Nov. 5, 1943) during his third mission and his capture and escape from German troops. The remainder of the interview is occupied with his flight through Holland, Belgium, and France with the aid of underground elements in those occupied countries. He also relates his eventual crossing of the Pyrenees Mountains into Spain and his return to the U.S. where he had been officially declared dead.

49645 OH0140.0.0 Maurice Franklin Weisner Oral History Interview 5-Feb-94 Admiral Maurice Franklin Weisner, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, recounts his distinguished career from his days as a student at the U.S. Naval Academy up to his assignment as a Fleet commander, headquartered in Japan. Among the many experiences detailed are duty aboard the USS WASP until December 1942; completion of Naval flight training school; deployment to the western Pacific; and duty on the USS Badoeng Strait and USS Rendova; participation in the Korean Conflict; attendance at the Naval War College; fighter squadron assignments; and command of the USS Guadalupe, USS Coral Sea, USS Ranger, and USS Enterprise. Admiral Weisner's recollections end with his assignment, in 1970, to the USS Oklahoma City, as commander of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.
