OH0070.0.0 Sallie Lewis Browne Oral History Interview 19810515 Sallie Lewis Browne is a native of Sussex, Virginia and a graduate of Madison College. After attending graduate school at Scarritt College, she was sent to Manchuria in 1926. In her interview, she discusses her work at Harbin, Manchuria, among White Russians led to her transfer to Warsaw, Poland, where she remained until 1938. After World War II she returned to Poland where she taught until the Communists expelled her in 1949. She was next assigned to Liberia and operated a girls dorm in Monrovia at the College of West Africa.

He describes his training at Air Bases, patrols along the Atlantic coast while stationed at Cherry Point Marine Air Station in North Carolina, the sinking of German submarine U-701, and the events that followed the sinking of the submarine.

39724 OH0072.0.0 Ben O. Jones Oral History Interview 19811109 Ben O. Jones, a native of Duplin County, North Carolina, served as Craven County auditor from 1921 until 1966. After retiring as auditor he continued as clerk to the board of county commissioners until December, 1979, thus being in the service of Craven County for more than fifty eight years. He discusses life in New Bern, the coming of the Great Depression, bank failures, and the responsibilities of the auditor's office.

OH0077.0.0 Rebecca Croom Fordham Oral History Interview 19800525 Rebecca Croom Fordham was raised in Lenoir County, North Carolina, and taught school in the Sandy Bottom, Tull's Mill, and Bucklesberry areas of Lenoir County. She married Henry Clay Fordham on 21 April 1921. She also attended East Carolina Teachers Training School in 1917–1919. After two years of marriage, the Fordhams moved to Florida where they lived in Miami part of the time and then she managed Tahiti Beach at Coral Gables. In the interview she discusses her teaching experiences, her college years, especially during the 1918 flu epidemic, the real estate boom and subsequent bust in Florida, the 1925 hurricane in Florida, and her work at Coral Gables. This interview was done by William Everett "Mickey" Elmore, nephew of Mrs. Fordham.

49591 OH0078.0.0 John Davis Humber Oral History Interview Dr. John D. Humber grew up in Greenville, North Carolina, and attended Wake Forest and Tulane Universities. He founded various medical organizations and was a co-discoverer of the Coffey-Humber treatment for cancer. In this interview he discusses his childhood in Greenville, N.C., his college years, and his work as a doctor. Also discussed is the life of his brother, Dr. Robert Lee Humber, who among other things was a founder of the movement for World Federation and was a great force behind the establishment of the North Carolina Museum of Art; and the history of the Humber House at the corner of W. Fifth and Washington Streets in Greenville. This interview was done by Stanley L. Little of the Eastern Office of the Division of Archives and History of North Carolina.
