Dear Doctor:
You have been appointed to serve on Unit "B" of the Utilization Committee of
St. Anthony's Hospital from January 1 to April 1, 1968. In order to overcome
reluctance of various members to serve on this committee and in order to
avoid certain willing people having to serve repeatedly, assignments will
henceforth be made alphabetically.
The Utilization Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 12:15
pem. in the Galaxy Room of St. Anthony's Hospital. Doctors serving on the
committee may go through the cafeteria line as guests of the hospital. The
next meeting will be Tuesday, January 16th at 12:15 p.m. Attendance at the
Utilization Committee meeting is not necessary for Unit "B" as long as a
dictated report as outlined below is submitted.
Members of Unit "B" will be expected to visit the chart station to which
they have been assigned at least weekly. For each monthly meeting a report
should be made encompassing the following:
I. The total number of Medicare patients on the floor during the
preceding month.
II. A work sheet should be filled out for each case falling in the
. following categories:
1. All Medicare patients (medical or surgical) in residence
over 1) days.
All medical cases in residence over 1; days, except coronaries
and psychiatric cases.
All coronary and psychiatry cases in residence over 20 days.
All surgical cases in residence over l) days, except ortho-
pedic, neurological and urological cases.
All orthopedic, urological and neurological cases in
residence over 20 days.
All 0.B. cases and full-term babies in residence over 7 days.

7. All premature babies who have attained a weight of 5 lbs.

Mr. Beckett of the Credit office will assist in the determination of
cases falling under the above categories and requiring a recommendation
from Unit "B". He will make available weekly a list of patients in
category II. Please note that reports are to encompass the customary
and accepted methods of practice in this community. Work shests end
other reports should be put in an envelope and placed at the telephone
operator's desk, or in the box marked "Utilization Committee" in the
PBX room.
