As you knowthe development of the Medi-Care Program requires that each hospitalhave a Utilization Committee in its staff structure. The ExecutiveCommittee has gone over very carefully the planning required for thisand with the appointment of Dr. G. M. Waddill as Chairman of thiscommittee the plan has been developed which we propose to institute.Every physician on the staff will be required to serve his fourmonths term and you gentlemen are asked to be the first to serve,Your duties will be those of an investigative nature requiringaccording to regulation at least two visits per week to inquire ofthe head nurse on the floor if patients have been in the hospitalfor longer than ten days time. Should such cases be found you arethen requested to verify the impression that further hospitalizationis required or in case of doubt in your mind to notify the Chairmanef the Utilization Committee, Dr. Waddill.It is emphasized that you are not police officers nor are youexpected to read the riot act to colleagues who have hospitalizedpatients for protracted periods of time.
