<p>STATE UNIVERSITY<lb />OF NEW YORK <lb /><lb />DOWNSTATE MEDICAL CENTER<lb /><lb />450 CLARKSON AVENUE, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK 11203<lb />AREA CODE 212 270-1000<lb /><lb />COLLEGE OF MEDICINE<lb />Department of Surgery<lb /><lb />Sept. 6, 1967<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dr. Karel B. Absolon<lb />2714 West 10 Street<lb />Amarillo, Texas<lb /><lb />Dear Doctor Absolon:<lb /><lb />Thanks for your letter of August 28. My congratulations to you on<lb />your myocardial infarctectomy. This seems like a most intriguing idea.<lb /><lb />I went over the material of Dr. Gordon Murray, knowing that he had<lb />resected some infarcts in the late 1940's. Unhappily, the hospital in Toronto<lb />had been moved between that time and the last year or two. Although all of<lb />the charts are apparently available, the cross-indexing system somehow fell<lb />afoul of misfortune and was lost in the move. The result has been that Dr.<lb />Gordon Murray has been unable to find the cases in question. It seemed to<lb />Dr. Wangensteen that it probably was better not to publish a reappraisal<lb />article if no solid information was to be forthcoming.<lb /><lb />At the University Surgeons meeting in February, 1967, Dr. Heimbecker<lb />and associates, including Gordon Murray, published a paper on resection of<lb />acute infarcts, including a series of patients handled in this fashion. I believe<lb />the background which you would like to find would be most effectively dug up<lb />by starting with that particular paper. It should have appeared in the August<lb />issue of SURGERY.<lb /><lb />With best regards, I remain,<lb /><lb />Very sincerely yours,<lb /><lb />Clarence Dennis, M.D.<lb />Professor &amp; Chairman<lb />Department of Surgery<lb /><lb />CD:fl<lb /><lb />COLLEGE OF MEDICINE * SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES * UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL * COLLEGE OF NURSING * COLLEGE OF HEALTH RELATED PROFESSIONS<lb /></p>
