<p>November 15, 1967<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dr. Jack Johnson<lb />Professor Physiology<lb />Department of Physiology<lb />Minneapolis, Minn.<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dear Jack<lb /><lb />I would like to ask you for a great favor, I am writing a<lb />biography of Billroth - the surgeon. In the correspondence with<lb />Meissner - who discovered the end - organs, Billroth reports his<lb />observations in 1854-55 on the cross striation in his histological<lb />observations on musele. It appears that he made some original<lb />observations which then Krause took over, after he confirmed<lb />Billroth's observations, Billroth however, felt that his observa-<lb />tions were not conelusive enough, even though Johannes Muller<lb />wanted him to publish a preliminary report. I would like to<lb />make a point of it,<lb /><lb />Some years ago I reviewed the material but unfortunately in moving<lb />I misplaced the material which is quite inaccessible for me over<lb />here. To my recollection Krause reported on these things only<lb />in 1860. Would it be possible to have someone in your surrounding<lb />verify the dates and Krause's earliest reference on muscle<lb />microscopy? You perhaps could "trick" a graduate student to make<lb />a report on this; I mean it in jest. I would be very thankful<lb />to you.<lb /><lb />Please do send our greetings to your good wife! Please do stop<lb />by if your track should take you in this direction.<lb /><lb />Sincerely<lb /><lb />Karel B. Absolon, M.D.<lb /><lb />KBA:bc<lb /></p>
