<p>June 26, 1968<lb /><lb />William R. Waddell, MD.<lb />Professor and Chairman<lb />Department of Surgery<lb />University of Colorado<lb />Denver, Colorado 80220<lb /><lb />Dear Bill:<lb /><lb />I would be very honored to visit your department in the winter<lb />or early part of next year. I always enjoy meeting with you so much.<lb />Next to the various aspects of Billroth's life, gastrectomy, etc.,<lb />I could present two films: (1) one on surgical therapy of achalasia<lb />in childhood, (2) strgical therapy of coronary occlusive disease by<lb />anastomotic replacement (ascending aortic to coronary saphenous vein<lb />shunt). You will reeall that I started experiments on this in 1956<lb />with Joe Aust, R. Varco and C, W. Lillehei; (3) Esophageal replace~<lb />ment with a colonic graft in Epidermolysis Bullosa, an unusual dis-<lb />ease which to my knowledge -previcusly was not treated in this fashion.<lb />and should be. (4) Preservation of heart and lung: an isolated<lb />selfsustaining preparation. Biochemical, hemodynamic studies<lb />preservation and after transplantation.<lb /><lb />There are several meetings I have to attend, and I would also<lb />like to do some research on Billroth's biography in Vienna for a week<lb />or two, Perhaps we could talk about my possible visit at the College<lb />of Surgeons meeting in Atlantic City,<lb /><lb />I must admit that I am a bit in a turmoil and busy with all my<lb />activities in the lab, writing and clinical work--and enjoying it<lb />all. In addition I got a few interesting teaching offers, which I<lb />am looking over.<lb /><lb />Enclosed is the second part (unedited) of Billroth's biography.<lb />I am finishing the third now. This will complete Volume I. I am<lb />looking for a publisher, who would want to undertake this task. If<lb />you should know someone, let me know please.<lb /><lb />Many thanks!<lb /><lb />Sincerely,<lb /><lb />KBA:elg Karel B. Absolon, MD.<lb /></p>
