Dear Harry
It was so nice to hear from you. I arrived here in November;
it was quite exciting to set up the open heart program. Unfortunately
there are no "livers" over here and I miss teaching and serious
research. The climate over here is ideal unlike Texas but in spite
of it there are a few sick people.
The motive to leave was prompted by the im possibility to set
up a food transplantation program, and too much interference, I
could not get adequate research grant support, Dr. Wangensteen
could not give me a service and after having been from 1952. at
Minnesota I did not get my tenure, Dr. Wangensteen made an agreement
with the dean not to promote anyone prior to his retirement. I thus
had to cae rs of the future. Dr. Wangensteen did not want me to
leave and I was quite sad about it. The only serious offers I
got were second rate VA jobs and I just got impatient. The situation
as far as I am concerned is better than a bad academic post.
My wife and I will be staying at the Oxford Hotel in San
Francisco and both of us hope to see you there. Please do contact
us in case I should not see you "around".
