<p>February 21, 1967<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />David Charles Schechter, M.D<lb />208 Anderson Street<lb />Hackensack, New Jersey<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dear Dave<lb /><lb />I appreciated your letter, The Einsteih Center appears quite<lb />definitely committed to someone from St. Louis who claims to<lb />know about transplantation, Such is fate - having left Minnesota<lb />because of not having been able to challenge the problem of<lb />transplantation to my. satisfaction and again not being able to<lb />get the appointment In Philadelphia because of the same reason<lb />in reverse. The committee had various reprints on transplantation<lb />and I believe that they obtained my bockground in this area<lb />if they have read them.. The Kentucky appointment was oecupied by<lb />my good colleague and friend Ward Griffen who will do a mighty<lb />fine job - he is a fine potential administrator.<lb /><lb />I have talked abovt you to David State a few weeks ago at a<lb />meeting in St. Barbara and I certainly painted a positive picture<lb />of yourself. Ds let me know if any further communication to him<lb />should be desirable.<lb /><lb />You overestimate me! I am perhaps better qualified for academics<lb />out at the same time not entirely dissatisfied by the large<lb />spectrum of my present activities. A septum primum VSD, internal<lb />mammary implant, shoulder dislocation, lecture on selective<lb />coronary angiography, Scarpa's De Aneurysmatibus with cocktails<lb />and Advances in Pioengineering to put me to sleep + today's<lb />activity, But how I would love to compete with these academic<lb />swine - who put ot rest Wangensteen - Varco - Lillehei - what<lb />a tragi -comedy. Is it a sign of decadency or does it appear<lb />so just because we are getting older?<lb /><lb />There are several opportunities that I am considering. If they<lb />should realize - I of course would challenge you to help out if you<lb />should be interested.<lb /><lb />Sincerely<lb /><lb />Karel B. Absolon, M.D<lb /><lb />KBA:bc<lb /></p>
