Both Mary and I were sorry we could not see you during our short
stay in Minneapolis; but you were gone by then. We gave my former
chief Dr. Wangensteen quite a "shindig" - he "retired." I would
like to ask you for a great favor. I need quite "desperately"
material for a biography of Th. Billroth, Billroth as you know
did the first gas'reetomy in 1881 in Vienna but from 1060 - 67
was Professor of Surgery in Zurich. In that period he was in
addition an active musical critic, publishing his observations
startine in 1860 in the "Neue Zfircher Zeitung" which of course
for me is quite inaccessible.
If possible I would like to get photostats of these articles with
date. The Neue Zurcher Zeitung must be in the University Library.
I of course would like to compensate your secretary for the
time, etc. if she should undertake this task. I expect to include
a chapter on Billroth's musical activity and thus must get this
material.
I hear your wife successfully shed her veins and is coming along
well - that is what Les says.
