Dear Doctor Absolon:
Thank you for your recent letter listing physicians with whom we may correspond.
Dr. B. E. Adams is the Chief of our Attending Staff in General Surgery. The
Attending Staff consists of private physicians who participate in our teaching
program. We have not had Full-Time Chiefs in clinical departments but are
currently recruiting for same. The relationship between the Full-Time Chief
and the Attending Staff is important for they must work well with one another.
Our Cardio-Thoracic Department is a separate service with its own residents.
General surgical residents rotate through this service. The interrelationships
between all services must be cordial. Our hospital is University affiliated in
two services. Additional affiliations will depend on our Full-Time Chiefs and
their ability to establish such affiliations.
Our research program ie carried out at the Children's Hospital, Oakland, and at
the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Martinez. We have no research budget.
We have available to us a yearly fund of $90,000 from which applications are
made for support of research and educational activities.
Our Selection Committee will be meeting within the coming month, and you should
hear from us soon thereafter.
