<p>September 26, 1967<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dr, Carl C. Rasche<lb />Deaconess Hospital<lb />6150 Oakland Ave<lb />St. Louis, MO. 63139<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dear Dr. Rasche<lb /><lb />Enclosed is a photograph (quite unretouched). My curriculum<lb />vitae which was supposed to be ineluded in my earlier correspondence<lb />indicates my background. The answer of course is yes to both<lb />paragraphs under A and B, My ambition is to combine a good<lb />educational and research program. After my academic career at<lb />Minnesota, I did gain insight as surgeon in Amarillo into<lb />practice of surgery. Amarillo is an ambitious community, but it<lb />will need another 5-10 years before it truly will be able to<lb />embark on an effective teaching research - clinical program,<lb />which is my greater ambition.<lb /><lb />I am not bound by any agreements, etc., and thus I am a free<lb />agent as to assuming a position. I of course do not know your<lb />institution and I am sure that in the case of serious negotiation<lb />you may want to look at me, and I look at you. I would be interested<lb />to know about your general plans, research facility, fiscal<lb />soundness, ete. If interested I would be very glad to present a<lb />lecture on a topic including historical - surgical, educational<lb />(such as surgical training throughout the centuries), or clinical<lb />topics, (such as coronary angiography and myocardial revasculariza-<lb />tion, etc.).<lb /><lb />I do believe that institutions will progress more rapidly<lb />with full time directors and this impression I gained having my<lb />two years in private surgical practice. Your institution appears<lb />to me to be an interesting challenge.<lb /><lb />Sincerely<lb /><lb />Karel B, Absolon, M.D.<lb /><lb />KBA:bc<lb /><lb />Enc:<lb /></p>
