<p>September 26, 1967<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dr. Erna Lesky, Professor<lb />History of Medicine<lb />Wahringer Strabe 25<lb />Vienna, Austria<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />Dear Dr. Lesky<lb /><lb />I thank you sincerely for your nice letter of September 19,<lb />1967. I of course have most of Billroth publications and<lb />publications on Billroth, either in my possession or available,<lb />and of course your nice publication. Enclosed is a short work on<lb />Billroth's school. I certainly appreciate the invitation to spend<lb />time in Vienna and I will certainly plan to do so at an appropriate<lb />time. Are the letters available in your institute the published<lb />Billroth - Brahms - Meissner letters, edited by Fischer or Otto<lb />Gottlieb-Billroth, etc., or do they include some unpublished<lb />letters?<lb /><lb />I visited your institute two years ago and you can well<lb />imagine how impressed I was by your wonderful work, and the<lb />tremendous collections! Could you tell me why Billroth, who was<lb />so active in antisepsis, even though sometimes controversial,<lb />never mentions Semmelweis? Do you have in your library P. v.<lb />Gebhardt's Familiengeschichtliche Blotter, Vol. 27, 1929, which<lb />contains Billroth's genealogy? It is not available in the<lb />Library of Congress or Natl. Library of Medicine in Washington.<lb /><lb />Many thanks!<lb /><lb />Sincerely<lb /><lb />Karel B. Absolon, M.D.<lb /><lb />KBA:bc<lb /><lb />Enc:<lb /></p>
