A meeting of former Residents (and present Staff) of the Department is<lb />planned for May 4th, 5th and 6th, 1967 at the University of Minnesota Medical<lb />School to do honor to him.<lb /><lb />On Thursday evening, May 4th a dinner will be held in the Main Ballroom of the<lb />Coffman Memorial Union to which you and your wife are cordially invited, Upon<lb />that occasion a bronze bust honoring Dr, Wangensteen will be presented to the<lb />Medical School, It is to be placed in a Medical School Research Building, the<lb />plans for which are under discussion.<lb /><lb />On Friday evening a stag dinner is to be held at the Town and Country Club in<lb /><lb />St. Paul, A dance will follow the dinner, We anticipate that this gathering of<lb />former Residents will savor an evening of old remembrances abetted by, you<lb />can be sure, excellent natural talent from an appropriate Master of Ceremonies,<lb />At this time, a silver plate engraved with the names of those who have subscribed<lb />for this evening of remembrances will be presented to Dr. Wangensteen, Please<lb />sign the enclosed card with the signature you desire on the platter.<lb /><lb />During Friday and for Saturday morning an educational program is being<lb />developed, We hope to have time for about 20 talks, each of 20 minutes duration<lb />covering topics by former or current Residents. Manuscripts from these pre-<lb />sentations will comprise a Festchrift issue of SURGERY published by C. V. Mosby<lb />Company, Plans also call for an Owen H, Wangensteen Memorial Issue of<lb />Surgical Clinics of North America in the Fall of 1967, The twenty articles<lb />contained therein will represent additional contributions by Dr. Wangensteen's<lb />former Residents as well as those in training, We encourage your participation,<lb />Abstracts for the presentation or publications should be no longer than 500 words<lb />in length, They are due no later than August 1, 1966.<lb /><lb />Because of the detailed nature of arrangements and the expenses likely to be<lb />incurred for these events, we request definite indication of your anticipated<lb /></p>
