<p>OFFICE DE RADIODIFFUSION-TELEVISION FRANCAISE<lb /><lb />Paris, le<lb /><lb />Dear Sir,<lb /><lb />The Groupe de Recherches Musicales of the O.R.J.F. in<lb />Paris, is preparing a new, more complete and up=todate edition<lb />of the documentation on tape music that was published in 1962<lb />as the "R?pertoire International des Musiques Exp?rimentales",<lb />This work will be coordinated by Mr. Hugh Davies, and will be<lb />either published commercially, or duplicated, and available to<lb />interested persons on request: if the latter, in February 1967. .<lb /><lb />In order to unify the final presentation of details,<lb />and to speed up the completion nf the documentetion, we are<lb />sending you a list together with this letter, whish contains<lb />all information we have on compositions produced in your stu-<lb />dio, in more or less the form in which the final document will<lb />be publishede<lb /><lb />In this new edition it is hoped to include all compo-<lb />itions for magnetic tape ever composed (electronic music, mu-<lb />ique concr?te, etc.), up to the end of 1966, With the rapidly<lb /><lb />increasing spread of tape music throughout the whole world, and<lb />its acceptance and integration into the field of contemporary<lb />music, it appears that a complete documentation will never again<lb />be possible, and, it is hoped, no longer necessary in the futu-=<lb />ree In many of the lists that are being sent to studios for<lb />corrections and additions, works are listed that do not appear<lb />in official lists of the studios - such as those published in<lb />the original "R?pertoire" - but have bsen mentioned in athex<lb />sources, Since they give a wider and more comprehensive picture<lb />of the output of a studio, we ask you to list absolutely every-<lb />thing! This includes works performed but later withdrawn, exe<lb />perimental studies - particularly by well-known, sometimes un=<lb />expected composers = that have not been released, and so on.<lb /><lb />O.R.T.F. - 116. <p>The estimation of the total number of compositions<lb />that will be included in this document is that it will almost<lb />certainly exceed 3,000... Some interesting and previously un-<lb />published details of the early history of tape music in various<lb />countries are coming to light.<lb /><lb />In this new document we are aiming at a complete pictu-~<lb />re of tape music, and not restricting ourselves to officially<lb />sponsored studios, We are also concentrating on defining the<lb />function of each work more precisely, and listing all works in<lb />a chronological order, Methods of distribution (records, tapes,<lb />scores) will be given in greater detail, On the other Hand, we<lb />are omitting the lists of studio equipment and the bibliography<lb />of the original "R?pertoire",<lb /><lb />!
