Dr. Mitchell asked the staff to take a definite stand as to whether or not the<lb />advanced section of the GRE should be required for admission to the psychology<lb />graduate programs. After a full discussion a motion was made that the advanced<lb />section of the GRE should be a requirement. Motion passed with one dissenting<lb />vote.<lb /><lb />2. Dr. Mitchell asked for clarification in just what is required of a student in<lb />lieu of the foreign language requirement; i.e., whether a student could meet<lb />the requirement simply by auditing a course or whether it is necessary to take<lb />the required course or courses for credit. After a lengthy discussion a motion<lb />was made that the student's advisor inform the student he must take the course<lb />for credit in order to meet the requirement. Dr. Tacker amended the motion to<lb /><lb />&amp; add "or pass by examination." Motion as amended passed unanimously.<lb /><lb />3. Dr. Mitchell reported briefly on the status of the Departmental budget. After<lb />review of the expenditures and a full discussion concerning them, Dr. Mitchell<lb />was instructed to ask Dr. Higgins for a report as to how many animals were now<lb />in the colony and if all of them were necessary, and also to try to determine<lb />if there wasn't some way in which the high cost of operating the animal colony<lb />might be reduced.<lb /><lb />4. Dr. Moore, chairman of the Comprehensives Committee, was called on for a report.<lb />He reported that one student had passed the entire examination, the other<lb />candidates had deficiencies in one or more areas and must make them up. One<lb />student had failed the examination for the second time. A suggestion was made<lb />that the student's thesis committee and director of his program confer and come<lb />to a conclusion as to what should be done in the student's case. After a dis-<lb />cussion this was not accepted. Motion was made that the recommendations of the<lb />Committee be accepted. Motion passed with one dissenting vote.<lb /><lb />5. Dr. Mitchell urged the staff members to observe their office hours.<lb /><lb />6. Dr. Mitchell announced that he had talked with Dr. Prewett during the morning<lb />and he felt he was making some progress in his fight against hepatitis.<lb /><lb />7. Dr. Lao announced since she was the one that had suggested that the staff con-<lb />tribute 25 per month for cookies and coffee to be served at the monthly<lb />colloquia she now wished to state that after attending them she did not feel<lb /><lb />&amp; it was necessary for the donation. Dr. Mitchell stated he felt perhaps it shoula<lb />be a voluntary contribution in order to have some coffee. No official action<lb />was taken.</p>
