<lb />MINUTES OF STAFF MEETING<lb />Psychology Department<lb />April 24, 1972<lb /><lb />The Psychology Department held a called staff meeting at 4 p.m., Monday, April 24,<lb />1972 in EP 104.<lb /><lb />PRESENT: Mitchell, Harris, Corwin, Long, Tacker, Whitley, Castellow, Grossnickle,<lb />Daugherty, Lao, Roberts, Martoccia, Stapleton, Means, and Higgins.<lb /><lb />In the absence of Dr. Prewett, Dr. Mitchell chaired the meeting.<lb />The minutes of the last meeting were approved.<lb />The following items of business were discussed:<lb /><lb />1. Dr. Mitchell announced that the Department is over-spent in the postage<lb />and telephone account and that no more long distance telephone calls were<lb />to be made over the office phones. Also, care should be used in the use<lb />of Departmental postage.<lb /><lb />2. The group was asked if anyone knew of the whereabouts of one of the<lb />Department's slide projectors, and if so to please see that it is returned<lb />to the proper storage spot.<lb /><lb />3. Dr. Mitchell announced that it had been brought to the attention of the<lb />Departmental Chairmen at a meeting with the Dean of Arts and Sciences that<lb />it was necessary for everyone to tighten up on the security of equipment<lb />and that it was absolutely against the State policy to allow anyone taking<lb />State equipment off campus for any reason.<lb /><lb />4. It was announced that Dr. Daugherty had been elected advisor to Psi Chi.<lb /><lb />5. It was discussed as to what the staff wished to do for Dr. Prewett and<lb />Mrs. Coleman during their illness. It was decided that each would make<lb />a contribution and a decision reached after more consideration of what<lb />would be appropriate.<lb /><lb />6. Dr. Mitchell asked that anyone having any suggestions as to what the<lb />Departmental Library needs are to please submit them in writing to the<lb />Departmental secretary.<lb /><lb />7. Dr. Mitchell asked that anyone having knowledge of an outstanding junior<lb />who might be interested in being considered for a fellowship/scholarship<lb />award for the 1972-73 school year to please submit the name to the <lb />Departmental secretary. Dr. John Ebbs is interested in getting a list<lb />of these students.<lb /><lb />8. Dr. Tacker asked that letters of congratulations be written to Dianna<lb />Beaman Morris and Minnie Daugherty on their having been honored by Phi<lb />Beta Kappa. Also, it was thought a letter should be written to Maria<lb />Castello on being chosen the outstanding female graduate. Ilaria has<lb />worked in the Departmental Office for the four years of her study at<lb />East Carolina.</p>

Rayford.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell announced that the School of Business is going to make a<lb />request that they be authorized to offer an undergraduate degree requiring<lb />only 180 hours. After a lengthy discussion Mrs. Harris moved that the<lb />Department encourage the Senate representatives to vote in favor of the<lb />request and for an over-all reduction in hours when it comes up. Dr.<lb /><lb />Tacker amended the motion to state that the hours be taken from the requirec<lb />hours rather than elective ones. Motion passed with eight voting for and<lb />six against.<lb /><lb />Dr. Roberts asked that the Senate representatives ask that this be done<lb />for the University as a whole rather than by single requests of Departments.<lb /><lb />This suggestion was approved by 13 voting for and one against.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell announced that the Dean of Arts and Sciences had requested<lb />that the matter of the proposed department code be brought before the staff<lb />for discussion.
