          <lb />MINUTES OF STAFF MEETING<lb />Psychology Department<lb />February 1, 1971<lb /><lb />The Psychology Department held a called meeting of the staff at 4 o'clock, February<lb />Ay 29/1 in EP 104,<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell presided in the absence of Dr. Prewett.<lb />Mrs. Harris was called on to make a report from the President's Advisory Council.<lb /><lb />She asked anyone having questions they would like submitted to please get them to<lb />her as soon as possible.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell reported for the Committee appointed to study the problem of advisees.<lb />The Committee recommended the following:<lb /><lb />1. New advisees should be assigned on a random basis to even out the number<lb />of advisees per advisor.<lb /><lb />2. Dr. Prewett should not have any advisees.<lb />3. Dr. Long should not have any advisees.<lb />4. General College advisors be appointed on a two-year basis and that while<lb /><lb />they are serving in this capacity they should have no advisees unless they<lb />so desire.<lb /><lb />5. Long-term General College appointees be selected from volunteers,<lb />6. Staff on a half-time basis should be assigned half load of advisees.<lb /><lb />= Dr. Tacker moved that the report be accepted and implemented. The motion was<lb />seconded and passed unanimously.<lb /><lb />Dr. Tacker was called on for a report from the Comprehensives Committee. The<lb />following recommendations were made:<lb /><lb />The following students passed the specialty area but failed the core: Julian<lb />Powell, Gerald Almond, Nancy Rietdorf, and Douglas Rutledge.<lb /><lb />The following passed both areas: Sara Anema, Dennis Chestnut, Gayle Biggers,<lb />John Ingram, Alan Harrop, and Harry Cain.<lb /><lb />Wayne Hodges passed the re-examination on the specialty area.<lb />Dr. Tacker moved this report be accepted. Motion seconded and passed unanimously.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell reported for the Curriculum Committee. It was discussed whether the<lb />Department should require Math 65 as a cognate course and that it be a prerequisite<lb />for Psychology 101. The Committee recommended that this be done. Motion made that<lb />this recommendation be accepted, motion was seconded and passed with thirteen voting<lb />for it, one opposed, and three abstaining.<lb /><lb />The second item on the Curriculum Committee report was recommendation that Psychology<lb />100 be dropped from the curriculum and Psychology 51 for three hours credit be added;<lb />the material to be covered in Psychology 51 would be essentially that formerly<lb /><lb />&amp; covered in Psychology 100 except the overlap, primarily in the area of learning,<lb />would be removed. It was suggested that the Psychology 50/100 Committee should also<lb />make further recommendations with respect to topics to be covered. It was also<lb />suggested that Psychology 51 replace Psychology 100 in every place in the new</p>

          <lb />catalog that Psychology 100 appears. Motion made and seconded that this<lb />recommendation be accepted. Passed unanimously.<lb /><lb />It was also moved that the required hours in psychology be changed from 30 to 28<lb />and the elective hours from 20 to 22--this change to become effective in the fall<lb /><lb />of 1971. Motion seconded and passed unanimously.<lb /><lb />Dr. Long was recognized to propose a new course at the graduate level--Seminar<lb />in Group Psychotherapy for three hours credit. He explained where this course<lb />would fit into the curriculum.
