MINUTES OF THE STAFF MEETINGPsychology DepartmentDecember 14, 1970The Psychology Department held its December meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock, December14, 1970.All members were present except Dr. Daugherty who was absent due to illness and Dr.Roberts and Dr. Means who had conflicting commitments.The following items were discussed:l. Dr. Mitchell asked that the professors write complete instructions on thetyping work they wanted the secretaries to do. This will enable the workto be done more efficiently, quickly, and according to the wishes of eachprofessor.2. Dr. Williams announced that the Ad Hoc Committee was still working on theform that was discussed at the last meeting pertaining to the new gradingsystem for graduate students. Also, he stated they were still consideringthe question of what "professional activities" included. He will report ata later meeting.3. Dr. Long moved that the grade distribution on the graduate form include onlythose grades given by fulltime faculty members. Motion was seconded. Dr.Rogers proposed an amendment to list on the form the 300G courses and the400 level courses separately. Mrs. Harris seconded the amendment. Followinga lengthy discussion Dr. Long suggested that this voted on as a revision of& the motion. This was approved and the motion passed with 11 in favor andthree opposed.4. Dr. Long announced that he had checked into the European Studies Center inthe hope of including psychology as one of the disciplines to be included inthe program. If anyone is interested he invited them to discuss it with hin;if not he was going to so inform the Director of the Program so no furtherplans would be made. He explained that if a professor did feel he might beinterested it would involve living in or near the Center and acting somewhatas a counselor. Also, he could take his wife and perhaps one child. Dr. Rogers reported that Dr. Pionani whe rant 1p apres nine hou in acomputer science program for graduate credit aaa "also to m@et minorrequirements.6. Dr. Mitchell reported on the problem of the catalog requirement that studentswho take Psychology 201 or Psychology 240 cannot take Psychology 206 and viceversa. Dr. Mitchell made a motion that this be eliminated from the catalog.Mrs. Harris seconded the motion. Dr. Tacker amended the motion and suggestedthat the following be inserted in the catalog for Psychology 201 and Psychology240; "These courses are not open to majors."' Mrs. Harris seconded the amend-ment. After a lengthy discussion Dr. Tacker withdrew his amendment. Follow-ing another lengthy discussion Dr. Mitchell asked how many faculty membersfelt it made any difference whether psychology majors take and receive creditee for all three courses--Psychology 201, 240, and 206. Five felt it did make adifference. A vote was taken and ten were in favor of eliminating the re-striction and five were opposed.
