MINUTES OF THs STAFF MEETINGPsychology DepartmentApril-May MeetingThe April-May, 1970 staff meeting of the Psychology Department met at 2:00May 5, 1970 in EP104 with all members present.Several special committees have been operating in the Psychology Departmentfor the past five months. The major committee was the graduate staff establishedto produce a proposal for the doctoral degree in psychology.At this meeting, the various points developed by the other departments intheir proposals were noted and suggestions were received for improving thepsychology proposal should it be asked to be more refined at a subsequent presen-tation. Dr. Grossnickle noted that the proposal needed to be more explicit interms of the clinical-community aspect of the doctoral program. He pointed out,with staff agreement, that this was a creative idea but that it did not receiveas strong attention as it should due to the way it was written up.Mention was also made by several staff members that the program carried severalinconsistencies in terms of hours required and electives; Dr. Prewett pointedout that all of these criticisms were well taken and that we would re-write theproposal if the Graduate Council asked us to do so.Dr. Prewett pointed out that several staff honors have accrued this spring. Dr.Long has been elected to the American Psychological Association Executive Com-mittee, Dr. Prewett has been elected President of the North Carolina PsychologicalAssociation, and Dr. Grossnickle has been elected Regional Vice-President ofPsi Chi.Dr. Martoccia noted that the comprehensive examination in psychology would begiven on Saturday, May 9.Dr. Prewett announced that five scholarships worth $100 each would be awardedthis year by the psychology staff, by Psi Chi, and by the Scholarship Committeeat East Carolina. These students will be announced later as winners.Dr. Prewett announced that 24 students had been accepted for graduate study fornext year in the Psychology Department,The staff voted to extend an invitation to Dr. Dennis Roberts to become a newstaff member.
