          <lb />MINUTES OF THE STAFF MEETING<lb />Psychology Department<lb />November-December Meeting<lb /><lb />The November-December, 1969 statf meeting of the Psychology Department met at<lb />4 o'clock, November 24, 1969 in EP 104 with all members present.<lb /><lb />The following items of business were discussed and acted upon:<lb /><lb />1. Dr. Martoccia reported for the Comprehensive Committee. He reported<lb />that the following named students took the test in the designated<lb />areas and that all of them passed according to the appraisal of the<lb />various staff members who read their pavers:<lb /><lb />Adams~-~Clinical<lb />Jolly--Clinical<lb /><lb />Lima~-Clinical<lb />Setaro~~General~Experimental<lb />Dixon--General~Experimental<lb /><lb />N. Jones~--General~Experimental<lb /><lb />The staff voted to accept the report of the Comprehensive Committee.<lb /><lb />A report from the Committee concerning the examination was also presented<lb />by Dr. Martoccia. The recommendation of the Committee entailed basically<lb />changing the scoring on the examination to a 13-point scale instead of<lb />the present 4-point scale. After considerable discussion the staff<lb />voted to return this to Dr. Martoccia's Committee for further study.<lb /><lb />a 2. An Ad Hoc Committee appointed at a meeting of the Graduate Faculty in<lb />the Psychology Department at its meeting on October 20, 1969 reported.<lb />This Committee had been instructed to prepare an up-to-date check sheet<lb />and make recommendations concerning appointment of graduate advisors.<lb />This report was debated in great detail but eventually tabled and re-<lb />turned to the Ad Hoc Committee for further elaboration. (See attached)<lb /><lb />3. The Psychology 50-100 Committee reported through its Chairman, Dr. Tacker.<lb />The following changes were recommended (and later passed by the staff):<lb /><lb />Dae<lb /><lb />3.<lb /><lb />4.<lb /><lb />That the Department Chairman consider a course load reduction<lb />for a supervisor of the students teaching Psychology 50 (1/2 load).<lb /><lb />That more formal and regular supervision be offered through class<lb />visits and weekly meetings with the graduate students.<lb /><lb />That a course guide be provided so that all sections of Psychology<lb />50 would study the same topics at the same time.<lb /><lb />That the supervisor assist in the standardization of lectures<lb />through helping the students as a group prepare a 30 minute<lb />lecture outline for each class period. These outlines would be<lb />prepared during the weekly meetings with the graduate students.<lb /><lb />That departmental examinations be constructed and administered to<lb />all students taking Psychology 50 during a night examination.<lb /><lb />That computer services be utilized in the grading of the examina-<lb />tion but that the cutting points for each examination be deter-<lb />mined during the weekly meetings.
