MINUTES OF NOVEMBER STAFF MEETINGPsychology DepartmentOctober 30, 1967The Psychology Department held its November meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock,October 30, 1967,PRESENT: Prewett, Dixon, Williams, McLain, Stapleton, Marshall, Martoccia,Rogers, Grossnickle, Kinzie, Long, Hedges, Higgins, Burkheimer,Mitchell.Dr. Prewett announced that November 2 was the last day of this quarter a studentcould withdraw passing and November 8 the last day an incomplete could beremoved.Miss McLain made the following report for the Curriculum Committee:The Committee recommends the changes listed below for the catalog listingsfor 1968-69:1. For Psychology 315, 16, 17,18: Delete present prerequisite and add"Application form must be obtained from Psychology Office."Motion made and unanimously passed that the Department acceptthis recommendation. Miss McLain, in collaboration with theDepartmental secretary, was instructed to work out a form tobe used,2. Two course descriptions should be changed: Psychology 210 tohave 3 one hour lectures and 4 hours of laboratory work for hours of credit. A definite lab time to be established witha supervisor in the laboratory at the established time,Psychology 101 to be 3 one hour lectures and 2 two hours laboratorycourse for 5 hours credit: the Statistic laboratory to have asupervisor at the established lab hours,Motion was made that the recommendation be adopted. Unanimously passed.The new minor program will be written as a recommendation and sentto the University Curriculum Committee for approval before it canbe included in the catalog.

2& Dr. Grossnickle asked that the Department reconsider a change that was madeat the last meeting, iee., changing Psychology 205 to Psychology 305, Itwas felt that this was needed to give more flexibility in scheduling. Amotion was made to this effect and after a lengthy discussion the motion wasdefeated.Dr, Martoccia moved that Psychology 206 be added to the prerequisites forPsychology 305. Motion unanimously passed.Dr. Martoccia made the following report for the Comprehensive Committee:A candidate for the Master's Degree in clinical psychology failed thecomprehensive examination in 2 areas--research and theories and systems--~and the Committee recommended that he be given a retest in these twoareas. On the restest the candidate failed the area of research andthe Committee recommended that he be given another re-test on this area.This test was given October 26, 1967 and the Committee felt that thestudent had not done adequate work for the degree to be granted. Thestudent was subsequently notified of this and told that he was entitledto one more restest, Upon receipt of the letter the student wrote aletter to Dr, Prewett petitioning the Department that his record bere~studied as he felt his overall average was sufficiently high forhim to be granted the degree, After a lengthy discussion the motionwas made and unanimously passed that the candidate be required to takea reetest in the area of researcheDre Rogers moved that the entire comprehensive requirements be re-studiedand made a part of the requirements for a Master's Degree. Motion unanimouslypassed.Dre Mitchell announced that the General College Proposal had to go to theUniversity Curriculum Committee first so action was tabled on this proposalfor consideration at the next staff meeting.Dr. Grossnickle asked that the graduate flier that is being prepared by Mrs.Stapleton and himself be examined and any suggestions be made as soon aspossible.The meeting adjourned at 5:45,Clinton R.
