          <lb />MINUTES OF OCTOBER STAFF MEETING<lb />Psychology Department<lb />October 2, 1967<lb /><lb />The Psychology Department held its October meeting in EP 104 at 4 o'clock,<lb />October 2, 1967.<lb /><lb />PRESENT: Prewett, Grossnickle, Long, Cole, Rogers, Kinzie, Martoccia, Higgins,<lb />Steinberg, Dixon, Burkheimer, Mitchell, Marshall, McLain, Williams,<lb />Stapleton.<lb /><lb />Mr. Dixon, Chairman of the Committee for Revision of Service Courses, made a<lb />report for the Committee. The following action was taken:<lb /><lb />1. That all advisers strongly dissuade advisees from service courses<lb />unless advisee can show reason or need for the course-*viz.e, 205<lb />for school psychologists.<lb /><lb />2, That the Department petition the Curriculum Committee to upgrade<lb />Psychology 205 to Psychology 305 and carry the prerequisite of<lb />either Psychology 201 OR Psychology 240.<lb /><lb />3. That more careful checks be made by the advisers and class instructors<lb />on classification of students in courses, and that student under re-<lb />quired classification be required to present written directive from<lb />their adviser.<lb /><lb />4; That the number of students in each section be limited to forty (40).<lb /><lb />That teacher-student contact hours be considered in determining teaching<lb />load.<lb /><lb />5; That two 2-hour classes, meeting Tuesday and Thursday, be considered<lb />for Psychology 201 and 240,<lb /><lb />Dr. Grossnickle asked anyone having a nominee for a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship<lb />(or any other fellowship) to submit their name to him. Two psychology majors-~<lb />Theodore We Whitley and Helen Cox Cleveland have been nominated.<lb /><lb />Mr. Burkheimer reported for the Social Committee--the Departmental cookout<lb />will be October 6, 63:30 pe me at Elm St. Park.<lb /><lb />Dr. Grossnickle announced that the Psi Chi meeting would be Thursday, October 5<lb />at 7:30 pe. m.e--Dr. Blanche Watrous will be the speaker. All professors were<lb />asked to announce this in their classes.<lb /><lb />Mr. Dixon was asked to prepare a syllabus for Psychology 305.6<lb /><lb />Dr. Martoccia made the following report for the Comprehensive Committee:<lb /><lb />John Matson, a graduate student who has changed from the general-<lb />theoretical program to clinical, has requested that he be allowed<lb />to take the Comprehensive Examination in two parts--the core exam-<lb />ination now and the examination on the clinical part at a later<lb />date. The request was denied.</p>
