        <p>MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER STAFF MEETING<lb />Psychology Department<lb />September 6, 13966<lb /><lb />The first meeting of the Psychology Department was held in EP 104 at 10 o'clock,<lb />September 6, 1966.<lb /><lb />Dr. Prewett welcomed the new staff members: Dr. Harry A. Williams, Dr. James Higgins,<lb />and Mr. Graham Burkheimer. He also announced that Dr. Josephine Foster of the Home<lb />Economics Department would teach one class of Psychology 201 for the Department.<lb /><lb />Dr. Prewett announced that the Department had been allotted one self-help student,<lb />five workestudy students, and 15 graduate fellowships and assistantships for the fall<lb />quartere One of these fellowships, however, is to be used in the Home Economics<lb />Department in exchange for the services of Dr. Foster.<lb /><lb />Dr. Prewett distributed the Graduate Handbook to the faculty and Miss McLain was ex~<lb />tended a vote of thanks for the excellent job she did in compiling it. He also asked<lb />if there were any corrections that needed to be made in it for them to be turned in<lb />at the Departmental Office,<lb /><lb />Dr. Charles Mitchell was elected to represent the Psychology Department on the<lb />President's Advisory Council.<lb /><lb />Dr. Prewett announced the 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock meetings of freshmen on September<lb />7 and asked that the professors be available for counceling.<lb /><lb />Dr. Graham asked that a meeting be called of all graduate students for a semi-formal<lb />@ orientation program. It was agreed that this should be done and the meeting was set<lb />for 4 o'clock, Friday, September 9,<lb /><lb />Mr. Sadlack asked about the possibility of a seminar being conducted for professors<lb />and graduate students. It was suggested that this be considered further and plans<lb />be announced at a later date.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell announced that a chapter of Psi Chi would be installed this fall at<lb />East Carolina. This club will have a schedule of dates for programs and he asked<lb />for suggestions that anyone might have for programs or any speaker they knew who<lb />might be available. He also urged any staff members who are not members to see him<lb />or Dr. Grossnickle if they are interested in becoming a member.<lb /><lb />Dr. Grossnickle asked that the staff members be thinking about the proposal which was<lb />circulated in the spring about text for Psychology 50 and 100. The matter will be<lb />discussed at a later meeting.<lb /><lb />Dr. Prewett announced that a monthly staff meeting would be held the first Monday<lb />of each month at 4 o'clock.<lb /><lb />Dr. Mitchell suggested that the graduate students who will be teaching Psychology 50<lb />be given some formal assistance from professors in handling this assignment.
