I donTt think the<lb />party or its principles ever had a<lb />stronger advocate, or 4 more<lb />sincere, honest, patriotic support-<lb />er, and I know it never had @<lb />-~pember I thought more of, or<lb />bad more confidence in. And I<lb />loye you now, and I will continue<lb />to do so. because I recognize<lb />your right in your opinions. Yes, a thousand<lb />times yes. ©<lb />No one wants our former breth-<lb />ren to otag along at the tail end<lb />of tho procession. I want all<lb />the honest. patriotie gold advo-<lb />cates and Porulists and all others<lb />who believe in the bed rock<lb />Principles of the party, and who<lb />favor the driving of the present<lb />gang out of power in the State,<lb />into outer datkness, where there<lb />will bo wailing and gnashing of<lb />teeth, and who will abide the de~<lb />cision of the conventions of the<lb />party, to come boldly into the<lb />conventions, and stand in said<lb />conventions as peers and equals<lb />of all other Democrats. Of<lb />course I do not mean that [ would<lb />fayor inviting sneaks, spies,<lb /><lb />bummers and traitors into a<lb /><lb />Democratic organization or con-<lb />vention, as plotters, schemers,<lb /><lb />intriguers stirrersup of sirife.<lb /><lb />Bot I do not consider the honest<lb />gold siandard man or the honest<lb />non-ofiice-seeking Populist as<lb />Delonging to these clasees, but I<lb /><lb />fook upon them as I look upon )<lb /><lb />myself and the members of the<lb />Democtatic party, a8 honest,<lb /><lb />uprigbt, patriotic citizens, de-|<lb /><lb />siring and striving todo the best<lb /><lb />they car to,aidin bringing light<lb />out of darkness, quiet out of<lb /><lb />chaos, happiness out, of misery,<lb />prosperity out of adversity, aod,<lb />above all things, to save our<lb />civilization from the hands of<lb />such men as Builer, Pritchard,<lb />Russell and their hordes. of<lb />heathens and barbarians.<lb /><lb />As I have said in substance, I<lb />think nothing less of a good<lb />citizen, honest and open in his<lb />convictions, because he holds<lb /><lb />| opinions different from mine on<lb /><lb />any question. And it is radically<lb />wrong, morally wrong and politi-<lb />cally wrong to heap denuncia<lb />tions upon them. The villain,<lb />the scoundr@f; the plotter, the<lb /><lb />intriguer, thé utprincipled fellow]<lb /><lb />of the baser sort, devoid of prin-<lb />ciples, honor, virtue, true man-<lb />hood, and who deals iv falsehoods,<lb />aianders and stratagems and<lb />treasons is the fellow to cenounce.<lb /><lb />li I was chairman of the Dem<lb />ocratic party, I would beg and<lb />beseech ali! These hot blooded<lb />fellows will learn a lesson after<lb />they pass through 4 few more<lb />storms, and will be as tame and<lb />quiet as Jambs.<lb /><lb />There is a right and a wrong<lb />way to do all things. Let us all<lb />strive to find out the right thing<lb />to do, by using all means at our<lb />command, and then do the best<lb />we can. I dont know what is<lb />best to do, but I do know yillifi-.<lb />cation, vituperation,denunciation,<lb />crimination anc recrimination<lb />are all wrong.
