It is generally seen in the<lb />east, because our showers come<lb />from the west and pass off toward<lb />the east.<lb /><lb />3, ft cannot be formed ino the<lb />east except in the afternoon.<lb /><lb />4. It cannot be formed in the<lb />west except in the morning.<lb /><lb />5. Iv may strike you<lb />it ig true,<lb /><lb />ft ~<lb /><lb /> emememem Ec aad<lb /><lb />Bodies of Criminals, Insane and<lb /><lb />Poor Sent to Medical Schools,<lb /><lb />It is a fact not generally known<lb />that the last legislature passed an<lb />act requiring that the bodies of<lb />all criminals executed and all<lb />people dying in jails, hospitals,<lb />asylums and other public institu-<lb />tions and required to be buried<lb />at the public expense, shall be<lb />delivered to the medical colloges<lb />of the State to be dissected for<lb />the promotion of medical science.<lb />But such is the case, and un-<lb />dertakers in this city have had<lb />quite a number of ostiffs,� as they<lb />are called, to embalm and send<lb />to the institutions of learning<lb />bince the pansage of the act-<lb />Mr. John Brown last week sent<lb />the bodies of two negro women,<lb />trom the Goldsboro Insane Asy-<lb />lum, to the University of North<lb />Carolina, and he now has anoth-<lb />er negro woman, undergoing the<lb />embalming process, which he will<lb />senda to Shaw University tomor-<lb />row. It is a<lb />horrible fact to face, but the<lb />statistics are before us.<lb /><lb />We preach against other coun-<lb />tries, and yet we find that not one<lb />murderer ir fifty is punished<lb />according to his deserts, and that<lb />for every two hanged legally<lb />nearly uhree are murdered ille-<lb />gally in the name of justice.<lb /><lb />No more awful illustration of<lb />this modern tendency to take the<lb />law out of the hands'of the legal<lb />authorities could be found than<lb />in the case reported from Indiana.<lb />Five men accused of burgalry<lb />were lynched.
