He puts the<lb />companyTs side of the question very<lb />strongly and. shows conclusively that<lb />what the company most needs is the<lb />active co-operation of the property<lb />owners themselves.<lb /><lb />Monday night the Reri~Rctor at-<lb />tended the monthly meeting of the<lb />company to ascertain ~what intcrest was<lb />manifested, nacurally thinking after<lb />what had been said during the last few<lb />days on the subject that many property<lb />owners would be present to apply tor<lb />membership. However, while there were<lb />six additions to the company, only one<lb />of them was a property owner and he<lb />but a small one, Out of the old mem-<lb />bership barely enough were present to<lb />constitute a business quorum. This is<lb />about as could be expected when the<lb />members see that the very people whose<lb />property the organization 18 intended<lb />to protect show no interest whatever in<lb />the company.<lb /><lb />To put the matter plainly, if the peo-<lb />ple who have property in danger take<lb />no interest at all in providing pro.<lb />tection, they have no right to» expect<lb />those with notbing at stake to do so,<lb /><lb />heart cheering. and should not criticise the voluntary<lb />. The<lb />wreck was caused by a Collision between<lb />No. 36, the northbound fast mail, and<lb />No. 11, the southbound local passenger,<lb />Three men were killed and six others<lb />injured, some ot them so terribly that<lb />there is no hope of their recovery.<lb />There were 96 passengers on the fast<lb />wail but none of them were hurt.
