JOYNER.<lb /><lb />In view of the tact that land planted<lb />continuously in tobacco for a number<lb />of years deteriorates orlcses some very<lb />important plant lite producing element<lb />in the tobacco crop, tobacco faimere<lb />lastead of complaining as we are all<lb />prone to do about poor crops and low<lb />prices, should set about to ascertain<lb />what is lacking in the soil to make to-<lb />bacco better. ~Tobacco culture is a<lb />branch of agriculture that requires the<lb />exercise of. a good deal of serious<lb />thought and business judgment to make<lb />it profitable and unless it is profitable<lb />it is a most expensive crop.<lb /><lb />After noting a good many instances<lb />of this kind I am led to the ~conclusion<lb />that in order to make better tobacco we<lb />need more potash. I think it would be<lb />a good idea for tebacco farmers in ad-<lb />ditiun to the quantity of guano they are<lb />accustomed to use add enough potash<lb />to run it to at least 4 or 5 per cent.<lb />potash.
