Society gave our people an intes"<lb />esting evening at the Sandwich Spread<lb />in Germania Hall Tuesday night. The<lb />hall was spiendidly decorated for the<lb />occasion. The nose guessing feature<lb />did not entirely meet their anticipation<lb />trom the fact that it proved impossible<lb />to keep the twelve noses protruding<lb />through the curtain still long enough<lb />for the mspection and guesses to be<lb />wade, hence this had to be declare. off,<lb />though it afforded much amusement<lb />while it lasted. The ladies made<lb />something over $20 on the supper and<lb /><lb />refresliments served,<lb /><lb />Horse Eulled.<lb /><lb />The passenger traia coming in Tues-<lb />day evening killed a horse just before|<lb />reaching the depot. The animal was<lb />picked up by the pilot about half way |<lb />between the Fourth and Fifth street]<lb />crossings and was dropped jusi at the}.<lb />edge of the Clark field, being carried a ,<lb />little over 200 yards by the engine.<lb />Tracks on the road bed showed that the<lb />horse turned out ot Fitth street and<lb />walked almost up the centre of the<lb />railroad to where the engine " struck it.<lb />The horse was a small sorrell, in very<lb />poor condition, and had nothing on but<lb />a smuil piece of rope wrapped two or<lb />three times around the neck, It be-<lb />ionged to Sam Bryan, colored, and the<lb />railroad very promptly settled with<lb />him this morning. !<lb /><lb />Baptists, See Here !<lb /><lb />fhe Southern Baptist Convention<lb />meets this year in Wilmington, N. C.,<lb />May 8th. Now, you want to go to this<lb />convention, and you also want to go in<lb />style and ¢ mfort. There is only one<lb />good firstclass line from the South and<lb />Suuthwest to Wilmington, and that line<lb />is the Seaboard Air Line, which runs<lb />the finest and fastest.trains in the South<lb />and makes the lowest rates of any<lb />railroad running from the South or<lb />Southwest. . DonTt be fooled into mak~<lb />ing your arrangements until you have<lb />consu!ted one of the Seaboard Air Line<lb />agents, who always esteem it a pleasure<lb /><lb />Ed.H.Shelburné&Co.<lb /><lb />Our Inauguration<lb /><lb />SPRING STYLES<lb /><lb />RICKS & TAFT.<lb /><lb />Look at This.<lb /><lb />Arbuckles Coffee only 20 cts a pound.<lb />Granulated Sugar only 5 cts apound.<lb />HeinzTs Baked Beansionly 15 cts acan.<lb />5-pound Buckets of Preserves only 40 cts.<lb />3-pound Can elegant Apples only 10 cts a can.<lb />Dried Apples only 5 ctsia pound.<lb /><lb />a<lb /><lb />ead<lb /><lb />These goods are all strictly first-classas we do<lb />not not deal in shoddy goods, We lead in the<lb />grocery business, others try to tollow.<lb /><lb />Coondicenn 4) Sensi :<lb />a | o Femme =<lb />= cs = =<lb />® pon eron|<lb />. meu ks Si<lb />nis, fo) ea Coke ex<lb />| = =<lb />=~ OO " «sD "" °<lb />SO "= © b = Sone<lb />oO fH oe e<lb /> . ae i = "<lb />a % sO dg =.<lb /> = ee<lb />B en Ba =s<lb /><lb />OF<lb /><lb />" BEGIN""<lb /><lb />From this day on.<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb />to serve you.
