Refresh"<lb />ments wore liberally served to all<lb />oon board.<lb />This excursion gave the visiters<lb />an opportunity of seeing the<lb />spleudid harbor of Galveston, and<lb />after viewing the vast water front<lb />they were not surprised that this<lb />Is one of the toremost in Uncle<lb />SamTs domain. ~fhe government,<lb />reovgnizing the importance of<lb />having a good port here, has<lb />dove much toward improving the<lb />harbor. Someihing that greatly<lb />interested the excursionists was<lb />the large jetties built for the<lb />purpose of deeping the channel<lb />across the bar. These jettics<lb />consist of two immeuse stone<lb />structures a mile apart that extend<lb />out four miles across the bar.<lb />Entrance to the harbor is made<lb />through the channel between<lb />these jetties, and there is sufti-<lb />cient depth of water for vessels of<lb />as great as 25 feet draught to pass<lb />in safety.<lb />The editors also had an oppor-<lb /><lb />tunity of viewing and visiting the'<lb />pattleship ~Texas which lay at<lb /><lb />Sa, te<lb />al<lb />e<lb /><lb />ee, gh Nae<lb /><lb />Orme<lb /><lb /><lb /><lb /> SIWER SERVICE PRESENT<lb /><lb />Ship for that State.
