The pe-<lb />tition was signed by about 1,000 prom-<lb />in all sections of the<lb />state.<lb /><lb />Bills and resclutions were introduced<lb />as follows :<lb /><lb />Sharpe, to put Nash county in the<lb />Eastern criminal circuit: also the Edge.<lb />combe county road law. The latter<lb />provides that no persons living in town<lb />shal pay road tax, .ut be taxed for the<lb />improvement of streets in the corporate<lb />limits,<lb /><lb />Moye opposed the bill, saying he had<lb />been informed by a citizen of Edge-<lb />combe that only one person in the<lb />county wanted the bill, te wit: Lee<lb />Person, senator from the county and<lb />promocer of the bill.<lb /><lb />#Alexunder oppesed the passage of<lb />the bi}, saying his county (Mecklen-<lb />burg had the best roads et any county<lb />in the state, and they were improved<lb />by taxation ; that he would vote against<lb />any measure opposing good roads,<lb /><lb />Parker said the bill was so manifest"<lb />ly unjust that he would have to oppose.<lb />its passage.<lb /><lb />The bill failed to pass"ayes, 1;<lb />noes, 32.<lb /><lb />The bill passed to authorize Edge-<lb />combe county to levy a special tax.<lb /><lb />The bill was taken up to add Cum-<lb />berland gounty to the Eastern crimizal<lb />circuit.<lb /><lb />Moye did not favor the bill because<lb />it gave the governor the right to ap-<lb />poiat the judge.
