As to the second re-<lb />quest they suid they could »vt shorien<lb />the schedule of the present train with<lb />out breaking conhections that were of<lb />considerable importance to business ju-<lb />terests along this portion of the line.<lb /><lb />Last week the writer had occasion to<lb />ge off for a few days, and along th<lb />trip made it a point to closely observe<lb />the schedules aud connections of the<lb />train:, and make some suggestions ac-<lb />cordingly.<lb /><lb />First, we noticed that the schedule<lb />time between Kinston and Weldon, a<lb />distance of 95 miles, is exactly tour<lb />hours, which is pretty slow running<lb />time for a well equipped road. Even<lb />on this schedule our train reaches Wel<lb />don at 11:20 oTclock, just 40 minutes<lb />ahead of the arrival of any other train<lb />With which it has to conneet. Thus itis<lb />geen that by faving a little faster run"<lb />Din; time aua, not making this train<lb />reach Weidon so far ahead of other<lb />trains, the svhedule going north could<lb />easily be shortened an hour ard the<lb />train allowed to leave KinstonT that<lb />much later in the morning without<lb />breaking any connection. Nove as we<lb />go along that the Washmgtou and Ply-<lb />mouth branches. occupy about the<lb />game position, and what applies to this<lb />~branch can apply to them also.<lb /><lb />Then again, in the afternoon our<lb />train isheld at Weldon until 4:10<lb />eTclock, 30 mintites after all other<lb /><lb />trains have departed, while if. our train<lb />was a'lowed to leave Weldon soon after<lb />the arrival of the Seaboard train trom<lb />the suu.h at 3 o'clock, and connect at<lb />Halifax with the north ound Coast<lb />Line train, there Would be another con-<lb />- siderable saving in time. i<lb />ut the railroad people may argue<lb />that the most important connection for<lb />mr evening train is with the Norfolk<lb />ina oShoo Fly which passes<lb />abyut 5:40. Well, let ous<lb /><lb />ot<lb /><lb />wu io* is<lb />ea a Bh ii<lb /><lb />: ; ery ay hie \ ve<lb />see +; he e. {<lb /><lb />~*~<lb /><lb />Took at the schedule of that traina|<lb />jaunoment, The morning oShoo Fly), _~Kimebh bert tile governmenkyraiy<lb /><lb />reaches Norfolk at 10 oTclogk and on<lb /><lb />This is of benefit principally to the<lb />people along the section of that road<lb />nearest to Nortolk who wish to go the<lb />ety shopping.
