Friday Policeman Cox<lb />bad several hands filling up the sink in<lb />the sdewalk, and to prevent further<lb />driving on it a fence was built next to<lb />the street and two posts were set up,<lb />one of them almost in the middle cf the<lb />walk. It strikes us that this last was<lb />avery silly piece of work. The danger<lb /><lb />such a frequently used sidewalk can be<lb />seen at a glance. Mr.<lb />Chandler seems to agree with the state-<lb />ments made on the stump by silver<lb />men, that the election ot McKinley<lb />wonld mean among other things a<lb />further increase in the National debt by<lb />the Government borrowing more mou-<lb />ey, but other Republicans will favor<lb />exbausting all other methods of trying<lb />tu pull through before resorting to an-<lb />other loan in any shape.<lb /><lb />Even if there was a Republican ma-<lb />jority in the Senate, they could net<lb />accomplish any tariff legislation av this<lb />session of Congress, unless some way<lb />could be devised of reconciling the wide<lb />difference of opinion among them as<lb />to what ought to be done. It is still a formidable building<lb />towering high above the walls of the<lb />fort. In front of the church yet ingide<lb />the fortification wall is a small square<lb />that served as aburial place according<lb />to the customs of those days anda few<lb />crosses mark the last resting place of<lb />some of those early colonisis.
