Here they are, and<lb />to an unprejudiced mind they<lb />seem to be about as fair as could<lb />be expected from the opposition.<lb />Democrats in North Carolina<lb />have always underestimated the<lb />Repubtican vote of the State, and<lb />that has caused them to blindly<lb />court defeat. The Populist<lb />strength is probably : underesti-<lb />mated here. °<lb /><lb />Here are tue figures:<lb /><lb />Number of ~negroes in North<lb />Carolina, according to tne cens1s<lb />of 1890, who are over the age of<lb />21, 109,000. Number of whites,<lb />233,000. Add 5,000 for increase<lb />since. Number of negroes going<lb />to vote this year. 92,600. Number<lb />to vote for McKinley, 83,000; for<lb />Bryan, 9,355 (this includes all<lb />Democratic and Populist negroes<lb />oand all whose vote will be tam-<lb />pered with�). Number to vote<lb />for Russell, 76,200; Guthrie and<lb />Dockery, 14,220; Watson, 2,280.<lb />Number of white Kepublicans,<lb />73,000, Number goig to voto<lb />this year, 65,800. Number for<lb />McKinley, 61,101; fcr Bryan,<lb />4,599; Russell, 61,600; Gathrie,<lb />3,100; Watson, 1,500.<lb /><lb />White Democrats in North Uar-<lb />olina, 140.000. Number to yote<lb />this year, 140,200. For Bryan,<lb />127,590; McKinley, 1,559; Palmer,<lb />851. For Watson, 130,093; Guth-<lb />rie, 107.<lb /><lb />White Populists in North Caro-<lb />lina, 25,000. Colored Populists,<lb />7,358 (iovluded in Bryan's negro<lb />vote). Total Populist vote, 32,-<lb />358. Of the 25,000, 23,112 will<lb />vote. Of these Bryan will get 19,-<lb />163 (the balance won't vote the<lb />presidential ticket). Guthrie will<lb />get 21,209; Watson, 1,302; Russell,<lb />60v.<lb /><lb />Summing all this up, the Re-<lb />publican informant state the vote<lb />~\to be: McKinley, 145,630; Bryan,<lb />160,807. BryanTs majority, 15,147.<lb /><lb />For Governor: Rasvell, 138, -<lb />400; Watson, 134,675; Guthrie,<lb />3,627. Plurality for Russell, 3,-<lb />725.<lb /><lb />oNow,� says the Republican,<lb />owe don't give. what .we believe<lb />our méjorities will be. This<lb />is altogether erroneous.
