C., July 20."The<lb />season at Ocracoke is now at its prime,<lb />and the many people sojourning here<lb />are enjoving this pleasant resort to the<lb />utmost. Hotel Ponder is surpassing<lb />any of its former seasons, and Proprie-<lb />tor Seorge Credle is giving it a reputa<lb />tion which it has not heretofore e2-<lb />joyed.<lb /><lb />This season transportation facilities<lb />are much more advantageous than<lb /><lb />~formerly, and this factalso causes much<lb /><lb />larger crowds to come here. The<lb />elegant Old Dominion Line steamer,<lb />Virginia Dare, under command of |<lb />clever Capt. David Hill, make a trip<lb />from Washington here every Saturday<lb />night, returning Sunday night. Let<lb />me say here in passing that any one<lb />who has ever traveled with Dave Hill<lb />knows what a pleasure it is to be on a<lb />steamer under his command. Then the<lb />same company in connection with the<lb />Norfolk & Southern railroad have es-<lb />tablished a lay boat here and this is<lb />one of the regular stopping points of<lb />the large and commodious steamer<lb />Neuse that plies between Newbern and<lb />Elizabeth City. This steamer touches<lb />here every night. And beginning on<lb />Wednesday, 22nd inst., the steamer<lb />Gazelle will begin a mid-week trip from<lb />Washington, leaving there at 8 oTclock<lb />A. Among<lb />these were people from New York,<lb />Baltimore, Lynchburg, Richmond,<lb />Winston, Greenville, Washington, New-<lb />bern, Tillery and other points.<lb /><lb />There are a number of pretty girls<lb />among the guests, and let me add again<lb />that Greenville oholds her own when<lb />the oround up comes. Miss Lillian<lb />Cherry is the most popular girl here,<lb />the boys all declaring that she is the<lb />most charming dancer that has been<lb />here this season.<lb /><lb />In addition to the large number of<lb />guests at the hotel there are many at<lb />several boarding houses, and still many<lb />others are here occupying their summer<lb />cottages. A party of twelve young<lb />men from Winston ure in camp here<lb />having immense fun. So ftaken alto-<lb />gether the entire istand presents a_pic-<lb />ture of activity and gayety.<lb /><lb />Col.
